Atheroma in the artery

This animation was commissioned by the Wellcome Trust to demonstrate the development of atheroma in the artery. It shows how cholesterol accumulates in the bloodstream, triggering an immune response and resulting in the formation of a blood clot.
This was for the Big Picture, a Wellcome Trust publication, which is a free post-16 resource for teachers that explores issues around biology and medicine. It was published as part of the online content for Big Picture: Food and Diet.
